Fourth International Date Palm Festival a hit with visitors
Nov 26, 2010 (PRN): The Fourth International Date Palm Festival which began its six day run on Monday has attracted a record number of visitors who have enjoyed the various attractions at the festival.
“This is the first time that I have visited the Date Palm Festival and I think it is an amazing show. When you see the date fruits in the shops you do not realize there is so much more to it, the cultural significance of the date palm tree to the Arab region is very important. I did not know there are so many varieties of date fruits and so much you can do with it. We tasted date fruit milk shakes, different sweets and chocolates made with dates and also had a look at the various interesting recipes that the organizers received for their recipe competition. I had a wonderful time and would definitely like to come back again,” said a visitor at the show.
Visitors to the show on the weekend can watch a unique fashion show with models walking the ramp in latest designs, with hair accessories and make -up made of date palm leaves and extracts.
The event has captured the imagination of children with various entertainment activities like face painting, date tree climbing and a fantastic array of date fruits for tasting. It is also an educational experience for the children. Groups of students from different schools have been visiting the show which ends on Saturday, November 27, 2010.
According to Qaboos Khalid, director of the festival, Turret Media, “We have had an excellent response to the show from exhibitors and visitors. The event has helped to create awareness of the traditional heritage of date palm fruits and it has also brought together retailers, associations and government authorities under one roof to discuss different ways to grow the sector. Families visiting the show are having a great time.
“We also have a handicrafts section which has attracted a lot of attention. There are fun bracelets, book covers and bags that visitors have been purchasing. Regular cultural performances and unique activities like date tree climbing have enthralled visitors, in addition to the Date Tasting area which has over 200 varieties of date fruits on display.”
The festival, currently taking place in Hall No: 11 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre, comes to a close on Saturday.
