Blog Watch: Compromise Is Not A Four Letter Word

- Socio-Political Commentary -

November 2, 2010 (FinancialWire) (By “The Political Prophet”®) (Entire, original post at  http://www.investrendsyndications.net/12-content/manl/prophet/2010/11/php/02.php) — Editor’s note: The 60 member net gain for Republicans in the House predicted above was submitted to us before the polls closed anywhere in America, further solidifying The Political Prophet®’s extraordinary record of on-the-record success.

Even before Election Day, President Obama discarded his calls for the “punishment of enemies” along racial lines and his promise to “send Republicans to the back of the bus.”  His combative battle cries of the past ten days will be magically transformed into heartfelt calls for compromise. This President sheds costumes, continence and commentary like a slick actor on the stage.

The Political Prophet® Predicts…The new Republican majority will preempt Obama with their own invitation for him to compromise because it is Obama’s policies and programs that have been rejected by the majority. With GOP control of at least the House of Representatives and the appropriations process, Republicans are in a position to force Obama to move in their direction on policy. The key, as far as public support and the next election are concerned, is for the GOP leaders to continuously invite the President to compromise and to join their efforts to act on behalf of the people. They need to put and keep the onus for any perceived failure to compromise squarely on the President and his refusal to “listen to the people.”

That, after all, is the cornerstone of the massive rejection of “Washington as usual” evidenced by this election. The voters will be watching and if the Republican Party wants to continue to grow, they must be vocal with their invitations to the President to move to where the country is. If he refuses to compromise, it will cost him dearly in the next election.

The Political Prophet® Predicts…The fact that so many House seats are held by Democrats who are “safe” because their districts are drawn to protect them will make it very difficult for Republicans to win more than 60 new seats. For example the historic Gallop poll on generic Congressional preference immediately before the election shows a projected loss of 82 seats for a net result of 174 seats for the Democrats compared to the pre-election total of 256. The data for that poll does not take Gerrymandered districts into account.

The Political Prophet® Predicts…Anxious Democrats will maneuver to gain favor with Republicans if their party takes a beating at the polls today. Election outcomes are still very much a game of expectations and, like corporate earnings and various government reports impacting Wall Street, politicians and the media will interpret outcomes as it serves their diverse purposes. Beneath the self-serving rhetoric, however, professional political decision makers and operatives intuitively know how the winds of voter opinion are blowing and why they are trending in that direction. They will then slide into a posture that serves their interests.

Republicans can take advantage of this trait by extending a hand of welcome to those Congressional Democrats who survive and they can do so on a vote-by-vote basis or, in some cases, by encouraging a conversion to the GOP. The invitation to “Come on over Joe” could be very helpful in the Senate. If Republicans are one or two votes short of the majority and Senator Lieberman feels lonely, he and one or two others could make a valuable addition to the GOP team.

The Political Prophet® Predicts…Sidesteps by the political pros will look like left footed ballet on a barrel compared to the moves that will be made by the business and financial communities to respond to a Republican majority. Contrary to public perception, the vast majority of the leaders of big business today are no more Republican than they are free market capitalists. The most accurate description for the titans who direct business and finance in America is “opportunists” and many, if not most, operate without regard to principle whether political, philosophical or ethical. There are exceptions of course, but for the most part, the captains of industry and Wall Street respond to the pressures of the day. They thrive not by fighting big government but by selling to it and through it. They don’t fight government regulations, they manipulate them as competitive tools to gain advantage and they do it without regard to partisan preference, philosophy or principle. The adjustments which will be made by GOP leadership to work with the business community will be directed more toward small business which has a natural alliance with those who advocate smaller government, less spending and less intrusive control by government.
