NOAA Awards Multiple Contracts Totaling up to $550 Million for Scientific, Technical Support Services

October 27, 2010

NOAA today awarded three Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts, totaling up to $550 million, for scientific and technical services to support the agency’s key mission and its five line offices.

Under the five-year contracts, the three firms selected will provide scientific and technical expertise across NOAA.

The firms selected are: Global Science and Technology, Inc., in Greenbelt, Md.; Riverside Technology, Inc., in Fort Collins, Colo.; and Science and Technology Corporation, in Hampton, Va. Each company will be given an opportunity through the issuance of task orders to support NOAA’s five line offices — NOAA’s Satellite and Information Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, National Ocean Service, National Weather Service and the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research.

The work done under the contracts will benefit NOAA in several ways. For example, it will help NOAA get the most out of the data from its operational satellites, leading to improved quality of short and long-term weather and climate predictions and warnings.

“This type of investment underscores NOAA’s firm commitment to sound, scientific research, reliable stewardship of the nation’s living marine resources and habitats and accurate monitoring of weather, water and climate,” said Jane Lubchenco, Ph.D., under secretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere and NOAA administrator.

NOAA’s mission is to understand and predict changes in the Earth's environment, from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun, and to conserve and manage our coastal and marine resources. Find us on Facebook.
