Washington Sen. Patty Murray in Tough Senate Battle

Oct 27, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ - Elected in 1992 as the first woman to represent Washington in the Senate, Patty Murray touted herself at the "soccer mom in tennis shoes," running on her local activism and school board credentials. However, in an ever-increasing political turn away from Democrats, Murray is struggling to reach the all-important 50% in recent polling against Republican Dino Rossi.

Murray has become one of the President's biggest supporters and nabbed a large amount of funding and stimulus dollars with her influence on the Appropriations Committee. While the Senator argues that she has created thousands of jobs in Washington by bringing federal money to the state, the Republican opposition campaign has hit Murray hard on her spending habits in the government.

Sen. Murray ranked 9th in the Senate in earmarks totals, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense.
