New mystery novel takes aim at professional, working woman
PALM DESERT, Calif. (MMD Newswire) September 20, 2010 -- A Pointed Death: First in the Pointer Mystery Series by Kath Russell seeks to introduce a series of mysteries that centers around a professional, working heroine. "I think it is important to bring forward exciting new 'venues' for the mystery genre...and to model heroines after modern American business women who are succeeding in high-tech and biotech fields - and running for high office," says Russell.
A Pointed Death follows biotechnology expert Nola Billingsley and her pointer sidekick, Skootch, in San Francisco, the scene of a mystery she becomes entangled in after her former corrupt employee turns up murdered. Nola soon finds herself consumed by a dangerous world of espionage, as well as romance with the inspector assigned to the case. "I like to write about entrepreneurial women because they have to juggle so much in both their professional and personal lives," says Russell.
Russell intends to present in A Pointed Death a strong heroine, but one who is also susceptible to both the dark and the humorous sides of the technology industry. "Life is going to continue to throw curve balls at you and, no matter how brainy and well-educated and well-connected you are, some of them are going to smack you right in the keister," says Russell.
