BERKELEY, Calif. (MMD Newswire) September 7, 2010 -- Prodigal Sons by Sheldon Greene shares the story of an Israeli assassin who hunts down Nazis in postwar Munich as payback for the deaths of his family members.
Jan Goldberg, a Jewish veteran of the Polish resistance and the Israeli War of Independence, is working as a secret agent for the Israeli government in occupied West Germany. He poses as an ex-Wermacht museum curator named Horst Vogle in order to carry out his mission to track down and kill Nazi fugitives. Jan soon finds his loyalties tested when he meets Greta Furster, a beautiful young German pianist that reminds him of his sister. She introduces him to a secret group of Nazis using stolen Jewish gold to support the enemies of the newly formed Israeli state.
"More than just a thriller with gripping fight and heist scenes, the novel depicts three-dimensional characters on both sides of the conflict doing what they can to heal the wounds of the war," Greene says. "Jan's struggle results from the tension between the corrosive impact of ideology and the healing powers of love."
Greene wrote Prodigal Sons to appeal to fans of espionage thrillers. The novel is a fictional depiction of a few fighters who returned to Germany after the War to kill Nazis. It also works to expose a little known, Neo-Nazi organization, "The Spider." Greene's love of classical music further inspired him to weave musical elements into the plot. "Opera fans will recognize it as a re-telling of Wagner's 'Die Gotterdammerung,'" Greene adds.
Prodigal Sons is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
