Washington Mesothelioma News – Well-known engineer dies from mesothelioma
Mesothelioma News Alert-- An esteemed Washington state engineer, who was key in the passing of a law that requires that land subdivisions be completed by professional surveyors, recently passed away after a seven-year battle with mesothelioma.
Hugh Gordon Goldsmith, the founder of Hugh G. Goldsmith and Associates engineering and land surveying firm in Bellevue, Washington, died the age of 83.
Goldsmith was a Navy veteran and earned his civil engineering degree from Seattle University. As is common in military personnel, many Navy vets have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare and highly aggressive form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure, mainly due to the substantial amount of asbestos used on naval ships.
Approximately to 3,000 Americans die every year from mesothelioma, which typically affects the lining of the lungs due to asbestos inhalation.
