York County, PA—The worker who was critically injured in an industrial accident in York County tragically succumbed to his life-threatening injuries on Saturday, July 31, 2010. The employee was seriously injured when a one-ton dock plate fell onto his head at an East Manchester Township shipping and refrigeration company, located at 60 Steamboat Blvd. at around 3:10 a.m.

As previously reported in an article titled, “Pennsylvania Workplace Accident: Worker Critically Injured at AmeriCold,” two workers were injured when the 1,000-pound dock plate fell onto two workers, trapping one. The fatally injured worker was identified as 23-year-old Robert Enfield, of Hellam.

A dock plate is reportedly “an adjustable metal ramp used to bridge the gap created between a truck and the floors of the dock when a truck had back up for loading at the loading dock.”

One of the injured workers was treated and released from a nearby hospital, while Enfield remained hospitalized until his injuries proved fatal.

Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the workplace accident.
