Sustainability: Meritage Homes Sets Energy Efficiency Benchmark
July 7, 2010 (FinancialWire) — Meritage Homes Corp. (NYSE: MTH), one of America's top 10 homebuilders, has opened its newest community incorporating the latest energy efficient technology in every home. The homes are designed to save homeowners up to 80% on their home utility bills, compared to a typical existing home as published by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Meritage said that homes in Lyon's Gate were designed from the ground up to go well beyond the energy performance program of any other large-scale community in the nation, realizing scores of synergies from state of the art features such as advanced solar electric and thermal system, energy-efficient wall, spray foam insulation, electronic home management system, and weather sensing irrigation and water management systems.
Taken together, these features can deliver more than 50% additional energy savings over minimum Energy Star ratings, up to 80% more energy efficient than a typical existing home, according to Meritage.
When completed, the Gilbert, Arizona, community is slated for 210 homes ranging from 1,600 to 3,000 square feet with prices starting in the $170's.
Meritage Homes claims to be the ninth largest homebuilder in the U.S. based on homes closed, offering homes across the Southern and Western state.
