Wife of late mesothelioma cancer victim files asbestos cancer lawsuit
Doris Hunt is suing on behalf of her husband, who passed away of mesothelioma in February
A South Charleston, West Virginia woman has named 60 defendants in an asbestos-related case regarding her husband’s death. Doris Hunt is suing on behalf of her husband, George F. Hunt.
Mr. Hunt was diagnosed with mesothelioma on September 29, 2009, and died of the disease on February, 19. According to a complaint filed May 17 in Kanawha Circuit Court, Mr. Hunt was employed by Union Carbide as a laborer from 1947 until 1987–where he was exposed to a substantial amount of asbestos.
Asbestos is a material most commonly found in older buildings–within roofing, tile flooring and drywall. The fibrous material was most desired for its fire retardant properties, and is now banned from being used in construction materials.
For Mr. Hunt, his exposure to asbestos is thought to have causes his mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is an aggressive disease, which attacks the internal linings of the lung, heart and abdominal cavities. The disease affects nearly 3,000 Americans each year.
Mesothelioma treatment efforts typically involve chemotherapy, radiation and other palliative treatments. At this time, there is no mesothelioma cure.
Doris Hunt claims her husband smoked one-half or less of a pack of cigarettes per day for seven years, but then quit.
The defendants are being sued for contaminated buildings, negligence, breach of warranty, intentional tort, conspiracy, misrepresentation and strict liability.
