Manufacturing: Cabot Opens Dubai Facility
June 28, 2010 (FinancialWire) — Cabot Corp. (NYSE: CBT) said it has officially opened its black masterbatch manufacturing facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai. The plant has an initial production capacity of 25,000 metric tons per year with provision to expand to 75,000 metric tons in the future.
Masterbatch is a concentrated mixture of pigments and/or additives used in the production of plastics.
Production at the Dubai plant scheduled to begin in August.
Cabot said that the Dubai plant allows it to better meet increasing demand for masterbatch in the Middle East, Europe and Asia Pacific regions. The company said that, in recent years, the Middle East has become a major producer of polyolefins and downstream compounds, currently producing around one-fifth of the world's polyethylene and polypropylene.
Massachusetts-based Cabot is a performance materials company that operates 37 manufacturing plants in 19 countries and employs around 4000 people.
The firm has market positions in carbon black, fumed silica, inkjet colorants, capacitor materials, aerogels and cesium formate drilling fluids.
Among its businesses, Cabot is a global manufacturer of black masterbatches and conductive compounds and operates three plants in Europe (Belgium and Italy), one in Asia (Hong Kong) and one in the Middle East (Dubai).
