PRESS DISPENSARY - Tuesday, Jun 22, 2010 - Gorgeous Things Ltd, the online and Lewes, East Sussex, gallery dedicated to rare and exclusive artwork and limited edition prints, is to exhibit works by the celebrated British painter Bridget Riley, including several rare pieces and two brand new, original screen prints. The exhibition will be held simultaneously at Kings Framers in Lewes and online at http://www.gorgeousthingsltd.com, where all the works are available for purchase. It opens on August 28, 2010 and runs for two weeks.

Bridget Riley is one of Britain's best known artists who, since the mid 1960s, has been celebrated for her distinctive, optically vibrant paintings. She is an abstract artist, but one whose work produces surprisingly familiar visual experiences with a strong emotional and even visceral resonance, drawing on - though not necessarily reproducing - the light and colours of the natural landscapes she experienced as a child growing up in '30s and '40s Cornwall and Lincolnshire.

Her mature work is restricted to a simple vocabulary of colours and abstract shapes from which she develops formal progressions, colour relationships and repetitive structures. The effect is sensations of movement, light and space which actively engage the viewer at perceptual and emotional levels, provoking visual experiences that are subtly complex, challenging and arresting.

The Gorgeous Things Ltd exhibition is to feature about a dozen original pieces, from rare earlier work to new, original Riley screenprints, with sizes from about 17.5" x 11.5" up to a dominating 59" x 41". All the works are available for purchase, with prices from as low as GBP 1,500.

Staged in conjunction with Artisan Editions of Hove and Karsten Schubert Gallery of Golden Square, London, the exhibition runs at Kings Framers, 57 High Street, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 1XE from August 28 to September 11, 2010, during normal shop hours, and online at http://www.gorgeousthingsltd.com .
