UN: Most Gay Men in Asia Pacific Denied Access to HIV/Aids Help

May 18, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ -- Nineteen out of 48 countries in the Asia Pacific region criminalize male-to-male sex and 90% of gay men in the region are denied HIV/AIDS assistance, according to a new UN report.

The report says this contributes to climbing infection rates in the region. According to the report, homosexuals and bisexuals potentially account for 10 to 30% of the new HIV infections in a typical Asian country. It notes that Nepal, India, the Philippines and South Korea have recently enacted new laws and policies to address the problem.
