British Accessory Brand Forecasts Indian Summer

This summer's range of scarves and other accessories from up-market British accessories designer Prickly Pear is inspired by the vibrant colours and distinctive designs of India.

PRESS DISPENSARY - Wednesday, Apr 21, 2010 - Sought-after British designer, Prickly Pear, has taken inspiration from the east to woo its western customers this season. The upmarket accessory brand is unveiling an Indian-influenced range, centred on a collection of soft cotton and linen scarves in vivid colours and prints.

The new Spring/Summer collection is available from its online shop at http://www.pricklypearshop.com .

Inspired by a recent trip to India, founder Joanna Mason decided to translate the sub-continent's vibrant colours and distinctive designs to the brand's latest range. "With its wide range of traditional and contemporary prints, our 'Indian Summer' range of soft, sensual scarves will ensure the stylish woman can look well dressed - and well travelled - this season," she says.

Since 'Slumdog Millionaire' won Best Picture at the Academy Awards last year, Indian style clothing has stormed the red carpet and the high street, with the film's star Freida Pinto emerging as a new fashion icon. Prickly Pear's latest collection nods towards this craze, whilst the exceptional look, fabric and finish of its scarves make them timeless rather than trendy.

The soft, sensual scarves are all made in Jaipur of pure cotton or linen, in a print range that includes vintage florals, bold contemporary patterns and fresh paisleys. Prices start at GBP 12.50 for a scrunched cotton scarf and GBP 14.50 for a printed cotton scarf with fringe or pompoms, to GBP 19.50 for a larger linen shawl.

Established in 1997 in Sussex, the brand has gained a strong reputation for using only the highest quality materials. All Prickly Pear designs are exclusive to the company and all items are handcrafted: the company doesn't buy from other designers or resell anyone else's goods.

Notes for editors

Prickly Pear was launched in 1997 by designer Joanna Mason, as a Sussex based designer and retailer. A few years ago it relocated to the port of Javea, a traditional fishing village situated on the most easterly point of Spain. There, Joanna also runs the beachfront shop 'Indigo'.

Joanna promises her UK customers a genuinely local UK service, with GBP GBP charges, UK delivery times and shipping costs, a UK returns address and a UK phone number.

Until recently, its products were only available from select outlets in the UK, but the company launched its own, direct retail website in November 2009. Some Prickly Pear products are restricted to its network of authorised high street retailers whilst others are exclusive to the website.
