Ohio construction accident lawyer alert- A construction accident, in which a concrete pump truck collapsed, caused three construction workers to suffer injuries. Columbus, OH—The Columbus, Ohio Division of Police and officials from the United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) were called to the scene of a construction accident in which three workers suffered injuries. A truck pumping concrete collapsed at a construction site in downtown Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, reported NBC4I.com. Reports stated that as concrete was being pumped through a hose attached to the truck, the increased weight of the concrete caused an unstable outrigger to penetrate through tubing beneath the ground at approximately 8:30 a.m. This subsequently caused the truck to collapse while its boom was extended to approximately 188 feet. Upon doing so, three male Igel Construction employees became trapped beneath the truck’s rebars, which are used in stabilizing the concrete. Emergency medical service (EMS) personnel were dispatched to the old City Center construction site to transport the three unidentified workers to Grant Medical Center and Mount Carmel Medical Center to be treated by doctors and nurses. One employee was transported in serious condition while the two others were reported to be in stable condition when they were taken to area hospitals. Their injuries were described as “fractures, lacerations, and contusions”. According to Columbus Fire Chief David Whiting, “Anytime when you set any outriggers down that you’re going to have weight on, you need to evaluate it and make sure it’s on something solid, and they may have looked and thought it was solid where they are. Again, that extra step always makes a difference”. A full investigation into the injurious construction accident is expected to be underway.
