Mar 30, 2010 (PRN): Google India, today announced the launch of a new tool to find product information online in India. Google’s new shopping tool for India gathers information about products and prices automatically - the system scans millions of Indian Web pages and extracts product names, prices and images. With the help of this new technology, Google users will receive information from more than 30 thousand Indian Internet sites enabling them to research a variety of products in just one page.

With this new tool, users will be able to search for popular products like mobile phones and household goods, washing machines including less common products and product categories like RO water filter or specific queries like wedding rings.

Google’s Shopping tool will also help users to compare prices in different stores for a specific product.

The tool will also help users to select a price range. For example, a user can search for all flat screen televisions between Rs 15,000 and Rs. 20,000.

Google’s shopping tool is another step towards the goal of making the web search results page more relevant to the specific type of information a user is looking for. Users will also be able to choose to display only news results or results from discussion groups.

Commenting on the introduction of this new tool Vinay Goel, Head of Products for Google India said, "Our research shows that online search has become an integral part of the product purchase decision process made by Indian users. Consumers on an average spend 35% of their time researching for products online before they make a purchase decision. This new tool is designed to help users make decisions faster and find deals online enhancing their research experience.”

To use Google’s Shopping tool, simply enter the product name into the search box at www.google.co.in. Then, on the results page, click on the “Show Options” link located above the search results and select “Shopping”. Once you start seeing shopping results, you can customize your filtering options as required.
