Product liability attorneys alert- LifeScan, Inc. test strips for diabetics to measure blood glucose levels were recalled. San Jose, CA—LifeScan, Inc. of Milpitas, Calif. and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) http://www.fda.gov/ have announced a voluntary recall within the United States, of eight lots of OneTouch® SureStep® Test Strips. The FDA announced the voluntary recall on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. The test strips are used by people who suffer from diabetes to measure their blood glucose levels while in the comfort of their own home. The recall was initiated due to the possibility of providing a false low glucose reading when the glucose levels are actually higher than 400 mg/dL. The following eight lots of consumer OneTouch SureStep Test Strips have been recalled: • OneTouch SureStep: #2969251, 100-count. • OneTouch SureStep: #2969798, 100-count. • OneTouch SureStep: #2982369, 100-count. • OneTouch SureStep: #2983467, 100-count. • OneTouch SureStep: #2969795, 50-count. • OneTouch SureStep: #2982566, 50-count. • Medicare/Mail Order: #2969481, 50-count. • Medicare/Mail Order: #2998193, 50-count The lot numbers can be found on the outer carton and on the test strip vial. LifeScan has recalled approximately 14,000 packages of 50 and 100-count of consumer OneTouch SureStep Test Strips that were distributed across the country between August 1, 2009 and January 28, 2010. At this time no injuries associated with the recalled product have been reported. Consumers who have the recalled test strips are asked to call LifeScan at (800) 574-6139, open from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. PT., seven days a week; or visit their Web site at www.surestep.com to receive a replacement product.
