Virus Drops Global Salmon Supply to 20-Year Low
February 25, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ A virus has greatly harmed the Chilean salmon population, which has lead to the lowest worldwide salmon output since 1990.
The decline in Chile's Atlantic salmon, which will decline 38% in total, has boosted the price of salmon, giving a lift to suppliers from British Columbia and Norway. Chilean salmon output plunged 65% in the fourth quarter of 2009 as its fish farms were hard-hit by salmon anemia.
