February 4, 2010 (FinancialWire) (By Bob Farley) — Health insurers like Humana (NYSE: HUM), drug maker Pfizer (NYSE: PFI), and hospital manager Tenet (NYSE: THC) all went downhill Wednesday, more to do with dicey earnings calls than the failure of Senate Democrats to decide to bring health-care reform off life support.

The laughter heard in Senate chambers from senators asked about the fate of the bill proves that Republicans don’t have to worry about filibustering, unless they want to delay the failure of whatever watered-down, lukewarm, ineffectual bill might make it to a vote.

Still, it would be nice if the country’s leaders could decide not on “health-care reform” for the country, but instead for “health-care” for the country. If you’re going to dream, might as well dream big.
