Mobile Advertising Grows By 41% in 2009

Jan 27, 2010 (PRN): BuzzCity, the mobile media company, has today released its Global Mobile Advertising Index for 2009. The data, gathered over the year shows that mobile advertising grew by 41 per cent in 2009 compared to 2008 with countries such as Turkey, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Mexico seeing growth of 300 per cent or more. Indonesia, India, USA and South Africa continue to dominate with 33 countries now delivering monthly traffic exceeding 10 million impressions.

The top five most active countries in Q4 '09 were:

1. Indonesia: 2.1 billion impressions

2. India: 644 million impressions

3. South Africa: 312 million impressions

4. United States: 301 million impressions

5. Saudi Arabia: 192 million impressions

"Q4 showed an accelerated growth with the return of advertisers not just in the newly established mobile markets but also in markets where digital marketing is dominated by fixed line internet pricing (USA, Canada, UK, France and Germany).," says KF Lai, CEO of BuzzCity. "New markets such as Mexico are showing real advertiser interest with growth of 294 per cent".

The Global Mobile Advertising Index tracks activity across BuzzCity's network including over 2000 publishers across the globe. The findings represent a measure of advertiser demand for mobile internet advertising.

"We often find growth information on a country by country basis," says KF Lai. "Our Index gives us a truly global view and we can see trends emerging in different regions. Our focus has always been on offering advertisers optimum access to consumers in the countries that matter for them so it is great to see such phenomenal growth in what was a challenging economic climate.

The only threat to further growth in 2010 will be the potential increase in price of the mobile internet as bandwidth availability becomes prohibitive. The technology developments and consumer buy-in have meant that mobile advertising is generating real returns for advertisers.
