Suu Kyi to Be Freed Most Likely After Myanmar Elections
January 25, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner who has been under house arrest, is reportedly to be freed in November.
However, that freedom will most likely come after Myanmar's fist parliamentary election in 20 years. Although the exact date of the election has yet to be set, most observers believe it will be held in October while Suu Kyi is still incarcerated.
Suu Kyi has been under some form of arrest for 14 of the last 20 years. Before her arrest, Suu Kyi led the National League of Democracy party which won in a landslide in the last Myanmar election -- a victory the junta refused to recognize.
