Telecitygroup France Receives Accolade For Innovation In A New Data Centre

Dec 22, 2009 (PRN): TelecityGroup has been recognised for its environmental and design innovation and industry leadership as it achieved an unprecedented double at the 2009 Datacentre Leaders’ Awards. The European industry-leading data centre services provider picked up two awards: TelecityGroup France won the Wildcard Award in recognition of the design innovation at its new Condorcet data centre in Paris; Michael Tobin, TelecityGroup CEO was awarded ‘Industry leader of the year’ recognising his work on environmental leadership and also for his work promoting the data centre industry as central to Britain and Europe’s digital future.

Stéphane Duproz, Managing Director TelecityGroup France commented: “We are extremely pleased to have been acknowledged for the unique and innovative design of the new facility, which has been built to be the most advanced and high quality data centre in Europe, both technically and environmentally. TelecityGroup maximises the use of innovation in ensuring the energy efficiency of its facilities, and this data centre is a great example of best practice for the Group.”

Datacentre Leaders’ Awards Wildcard Judge Ambrose McNevin, Editor DatacenterDynamics FOCUS, said: “Of the well engineered and efficient data centres which were considered for the Wildcard award, TelecityGroup’s Condorcet Paris project stood out, by showing how harnessing the power of the data centre can positively impact wider society. Data centres are the engines of the digital economy and by themselves offer immense value to the global economy. The added value of collaborations such as that between TelecityGroup and the French National Institute for Agronomic Research proves that with imagination and application, a well engineered data centre can help directly tackle issues such as climate change that affect us all.”

Michael Tobin and TelecityGroup have worked to raise the profile of the industry, for example working to ensure it was featured and recognised in the Digital Britain report. It has also demonstrated that it can meet the environmental challenges of the industry by adopting the EU’s Code of Conduct best practices for data centres across its entire portfolio of facilities in Europe.

George Rockett, Group Publishing Director, DatacenterDynamics, said: “Michael Tobin stands out as a business leader of vision and we are delighted to present him with the Datacentre Business Leader of the Year Award. This award recognises those who ensure that our industry delivers continued business value to investors and customers.’

Michael Tobin, TelecityGroup CEO commented: “I’m thrilled to have received this award – which is dedicated to the hard work of everyone at TelecityGroup. It has been a very important year for the data centre industry and for TelecityGroup; data centres have an integral place in our digital future and TelecityGroup’s ongoing growth and investment keeps us at the very heart of this.”

11 awards were presented at the gala ceremony earlier this week, the third annual Datacentre Leaders’ awards. The awards recognise sustainability, efficiency and innovation across the data centre industry.
