Sharps Compliance Awarded GSA Schedule Contract

December 8, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Sharps Compliance Corp. (NASDAQ: SMED) was awarded a five-year Federal Supply schedule contract by the General Services Administration of the U.S. government .

The GSA Schedule, effective December 15, 2009, provides a streamlined vehicle for federal government agencies to purchase the company’s products and services, including the Sharps Disposal By Mail System(R), Sharps Medical Waste Management System and RxTakeAway solutions. Federal government agencies that purchase through the GSA include the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Homeland Security (including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA), the Department of Health and Human Services (including the Public Health Service and indirectly to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention), the American Red Cross, and others.

Sharps also was awarded a Distribution and Pricing Agreement with the Defense Supply Center of Philadelphia’s directorate of Medical Material which provides the automated tools to promote efficient procurement of medical products for the Department of Defense.

Sharps was awarded a $40 million contract in February this year by an agency of the U.S. government to provide its Sharps(R)MWMS, a Medical Waste Management System designed to be an integral part of governmental and commercial emergency preparedness programs.
