Playboy Enterprises Inks Outsourcing Deal With American Media
November 25, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Playboy Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: PLA) said it has reached an agreement with American Media, Inc. for the outsourcing of all Playboy magazine functions excluding the editorial product.
AMI, which is the nation’s fourth-largest consumer magazine publisher, will assume responsibility for the production, circulation, advertising sales, marketing and other support services of both Playboy magazine and the company’s other domestic publications.
Playboy CEO Scott N. Flanders said, “Our goal is to focus our resources on what we do best, which is to create compelling content.’
He added that American Media will be able to “significantly reduce” Playboy’s cost structure and leverage the economies of scale related to manufacturing, distribution and marketing that are available to a large, multi-title publisher. Chicago-based Playboy is a media and lifestyle company that markets its brand through a range of media properties and licensing initiatives. The company publishes Playboy magazine in the United States and abroad and creates content for distribution via television networks, websites, mobile platforms and radio.
