November 2, 2009 (FinancialWire) — People’s United Bank (NASDAQ: PBCT) has hired David Norton as senior executive vice president and chief human resources officer. Norton will be a member of the bank’s management committee and report directly to president and CEO Philip R. Sherringham.

Norton joins People’s United from The New York Times (NYSE: NYT), where he served as senior vice president of human resources. Prior to this, Norton was charged with enterprise-wide human resources responsibilities at Starwood Hotels and Resorts (NYSE: HOT) and, earlier, at PepsiCo’s (NYSE: PEP) Frito Lay North America division.

Bridgeport, Connecticut-based People’s United Bank provides consumer and commercial banking services through a network of subsidiary banks with around 300 branches in Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine and New York.
