International Warning of Fake COVID-19 Prophylactics/Pfizer Vaccine Tablets
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, March 25 - Port-of-Spain, 24th March, 2022: The Ministry of Health was advised by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service of the recent seizure of counterfeit COVID-19 Prophylactics/Pfizer Vaccine tablets in Ireland.
These “Pfizer Vaccine” tablets, which are sold on websites and other online spaces, are advertised as a cure for the COVID-19 virus. It is important to note that Pfizer does not produce any tablets that serve as a cure or prevent persons from getting COVID-19. Additionally, analysis of these tablets revealed that they contained sugar with no active ingredient. Therefore, persons who take this medication may think they are protected from COVID-19 when they are not.
Thus, any tablets labelled “Pfizer Vaccine” should be considered as counterfeit.
The public is advised of the following:
- Anyone who has received or observed these tablets (see pictures attached) on the open market should immediately make a report to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service as well as the Chemistry, Food and Drug Division at 868-623-5242 or cfdd@health.gov.tt .
- Vaccination against COVID-19, paired with the three W’s (wash your hands, wear your mask and watch your distance) is the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19
- Get updates regarding treatment and prevention of COVID-19 from official sources only, such as the Ministry of Health’s website (www.health.gov.tt) and social media pages.
The Ministry of Health continues to work with entities such as the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to address and treat with issues which pose a threat to public health. Visit www.health.gov.tt for further updates on the COVID-19 virus.
