Solutia To Expand Belgium Facility

September 14, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Solutia (NYSE: SOA) said it will upgrade its facility in Ghent, Belgium to produce acoustic PVB sheet. The product is used between layers of glass in architectural applications, such as windows, to reduce noise.

According to Solutia, the expansion will serve the acoustic glazing architectural market in Europe and Asia, building on the company’s current acoustic production capacity in Santo Toribio, Mexico.

The company’s Saflex Q series acoustic interlayer products provide acoustical damping and sound control. Solutia claims that use of the product in architectural applications reduces the perceived level of noise by up to 50 percent.

In 2008, Saflex launched a plan to add a third production line in Ghent along with resin expansion plans in Antwerp and Indian Orchard, Massachusetts. Solutia opened a new Saflex manufacturing plant in Suzhou, China in September 2007.

St. Louis-based Solutia is a performance materials and specialty chemicals company. The company operates globally with around 3,100 employees in more than 60 locations.
