L.B. Foster Wins $1.9 Million Ohio River Piling Contract
August 28, 2009 (FinancialWire) — L.B. Foster Co. (NASDAQ: FSTR) said it has been awarded a $1.9 million contract by the city of Ashland, Kentucky to supply materials for a piling system designed to allow future construction of recreational buildings at the edge of the Ohio River.
The company said that project engineer KZF Design of Cincinnati, Ohio had recommended L.B. Foster and its “Open Cell” technology over traditional tie-back walls to reduce material and installation costs.
According to L.B. Foster, Open Cell system is a patented technology developed by PND Engineers and marketed worldwide by L.B. Foster. The company said the design provides “superior load carrying capabilities at a reduced cost.”
Smith Contractors began work on the project in June and expects pile driving to be completed by the end of September.
