Blog Watch: QQQQ Becomes Current Market Bellwether
-Technical Analysis & Commentary -
August 25, 2009 (FinancialWire) — The following is an excerpt from “Dr. Joe’s Market Diagnosis”, posted at Investrend Weblogs by Dr. Joe Duarte:
“The Powershares Nasdaq 100 ETF (NASDAQ: QQQQ) has risen above 40, making a new high for the current rally and cementing its place as a significant force and more as big name stocks, which are QQQQ members, including Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO), Intel (Nasdaq: INTC), Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT) and Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) made the most active list as well.
“The Qs was the only ETF to make the most active list anywhere on Friday 8-21-09 when the market pushed the bears to the side and made new highs all around. But there is more significance to this than might meet the eye. Many of the most heavily weighted stocks in the ETF also made the most active list, and most of them, except for Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) were gainers for the day.
“This clear flow of money into the biggest non technology stocks in the Nasdaq validates the findings of the FirstAlert(tm) Money Index (http://www.financialwire.net/?s=Synopsis%27), which tracks money flows in the stock market. This index has been showing a propensity of money to move toward the Nasdaq over the last few days. What happened on Friday was even more dramatic, though, as it shows a narrowing of the focus on the part of investors, and could be a sign of a very narrow market in the next few weeks. Note that the FirstAlert Index is purely a measure of money flow, not a measure of how much any stock rises or falls on a point or percentage basis.”
