As reported by The Burlington Free Press, the JIDDU/SIDDU Trust of Colchester and CRC Excavating have been accused of illegally demolishing buildings in Essex Junction due to not providing sufficient notification to the agency and failing to conduct a proper inspection. David Peterson with the EPA is quoted in the report as stating of the matter, “If there was some asbestos, it could have affected the workers and the people down the street.” However, traces of asbestos have not been found at the demolition site. If found to be in violation of the federal Clean Air Act and the National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Asbestos, the companies may have to pay a combined sum of $29,308.
