A Michigan based funeral home has been accused of asbestos violations along with its city. Mesothelioma Cancer News (Rockford, Michigan) – A Rockford, Michigan based funeral home has been fined for asbestos violations. As reported by The Grand Rapids Press, the funeral home and the Rockford City Hall have been fined by the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MIOSHA) in connection with the improper demolition of a house found to have asbestos. The contractor will reportedly be fined as well. Bill DeLiefde, MIOSHA health manager, is quoted in the report as stating of the issue, “They both have responsibilities (to identify asbestos)… When you own any pre-1981 building, you're obligated, as a building owner, to survey for asbestos-containing materials.” City Manager Michael Young is further quoted as stating of the city’s $250 fine, “It's typical nonsensical government regulations… You've got to be reasonable. (Our firefighters) never breathed in the air.
