Belden To Shutter Massachusetts Plant
July 21, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Belden (NYSE: BDC) plans to cease production activities at one of its manufacturing plants located in Leominster, Massachusetts by July 2010. Around 170 employees will be affected by the move
The facility manufactures wire and cable products for enterprise applications throughout the United States. Production will be moved to other existing Belden manufacturing facilities located in Leominster, Massachusetts, Monticello, Kentucky, and Nogales, Mexico.
Belden said that the employees idled by the plant closure will be eligible for severance benefits from the company. This action is part of a restructuring initiative launched by the company late last year.
St. Louis-based Belden produces copper cable, fiber, wireless technology, connectors, switches and active components. The company posted 2008 revenue of $2 billion. Belden has manufacturing capability in North America, Europe and Asia.
