BGC Partners Buys Liquidez
June 18, 2009 (FinancialWire) — BGC Partners, Inc. (NASDAQ: BGCP), an inter-dealer broker of financial instruments, said it has closed its acquisition of Liquidez DTVM Ltda, or Liquidez, a Brazilian inter-dealer broker of foreign exchange derivatives, commodities, credit, equities, and interest rate products.
Liquidez claims to have accounted for 13.7% of all contracts traded in May 2009 on the BM&F segment of BM&FBOVESPA. The Brazilian Mercantile & Futures Exchange recently merged with BOVESPA to create BM&FBOVESPA, the world’s fourth largest exchange by market capitalization according to the Financial Times.
New York-based BGC Partners said the deal marks an important step for the company, as it looks to further increase its presence in Latin America.
Liquidez has offices in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and 135 employees.
