May 20, 2009 (FinancialWire) — American Water Works Co., Inc. (NYSE: AWK) said that its financing subsidiary has closed a private placement offering of $25.5 million of 8.27 % senior unsecured notes due 2039 and $24.5 million of 7.21% senior unsecured notes due 2019.

The company said it will use the net proceeds of the offering to repay short-term debt.
