As reported by the Palm Beach Post, the pilot of a single-engine Beechcraft V35 Bonanza took off about 11:30 a.m. And immediately experienced engine trouble. The pilot circled and attempted an emergency landing, when he struck an unoccupied Cessna 337 on the ground. The plane stopped after crashing into a semi-truck. Both the pilot and his passenger were killed in the fatal aviation accident. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) www.ntsb.gov, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) www.faa.gov, are investigating the cause of the plane’s engine failure and subsequent crash. Witnesses at the airport claim the plane was headed right for them, and the pilot, a retired police officer, sacraficed the aircraft by banking right and crashing into the ground. The Lantana airport was closed by Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue crews to contain the fuel spill and investigate the wreckage.
