Family Seeking Co-workers of Deceased Mother

The family of a UK woman who perished after developing an asbestos-related cancer is now searching for her former co-workers. The family hopes that finding her co-workers could help them in their battle for compensation.

Helen (Frost) Llewellyn passed away last month at the age of 74. Mrs. Llewellyn was diagnosed with mesothelioma five years ago.

Mrs. Llewellyn is thought to have been exposed to asbestos during the course of her career working at an English Electric Company factory between 1967 and 1968.

Her family hopes to track down her former co-workers in order confirm the nature of the work Mrs. Llewellyn performed at the factory that would have exposed her to deadly asbestos fibers.

Her son, John, has stated that “Mum started feeling unwell about five years ago and she went to see a specialist who diagnosed her with cancer caused by asbestos. We checked through her employment history and the factory…was the only place where we thought she could have been exposed to asbestos.”

There are a variety of conditions which are caused by inhaling asbestos. Mesothelioma is a rare but aggressive cancer which most commonly occurs in the lining of the lungs and is linked almost exclusively to asbestos exposure. Symptoms typically include breathlessness and chest pain and the condition is often associated with a rapid and significant weight loss.

Mesothelioma typically occurs in men, but in recent years, the number of women who have been diagnosed with this disease has increased significantly. Women in the US are most often exposed to asbestos in a secondhand fashion; for example, some women with mesothelioma inhaled asbestos while washing work clothing belonging to their spouse.
