Author pens new historical novel that traces European and Ottoman-Turkish Jewish history

Farewell Homeland by Fuat Andic is a reflective novel about a family forced to flee their home due to faith differences

WASHINGTON, D.C (MMD Newswire) April 29, 2009 -- Farewell Homeland by Fuat Andic is the tale of a Jewish family exiled from Spain and that family's settlement in Turkey.

Andic tells the story of Dr. Ben Naum, who, in 1492, was expelled from Granada, Spain, and took refuge in the seaport city of Salonika, Turkey. The author gives an account of Naum's family and its descendants over centuries and their extermination with the German occupation of Salonika during World War II. Although fictional, the novel's main character is similar to many Jews who have been forced to leave their homes because of their faith, states Andic.

Inspired by his historical studies on Jews, Spain and Spanish literature, Andic details accounts of discrimination and genocide and contrasts them with Ottoman tolerance. He dedicates the book to those who were forced to leave their homes due to differences in thought, faith and race.

Writing to show the sacrifices and hardships many experienced beginning in the 15th century, Andic hopes Farewell Homeland will appeal to those interested in the Holocaust and others who have felt the pangs of discrimination. He intends his book to be as informative as it is enlightening.
