Celebrating 10 years of "Giving Away Joy"

(MMD Newswire) April 1, 2009 -- For the past 10 years, Rev. Dr. Wilma R. Johnson and the New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Mi have been in engaged in a love affair between Pastor and People.

On March 1, 1999, Rev. Dr. Wilma R. Johnson made history as the first female pastor of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in the city of Detroit. On becoming Pastor, Rev. Johnson promised to do four things, "preach, teach, love and pray." Ten years later, "Pastor J", as she is lovingly called by the congregation, has done just that! This year, as a part of the 10th Anniversary Celebration, Pastor Johnson is doing what she is known for, "giving away her joy". On Friday, April 3, 2009 at 7pm, Pastor Johnson, a four year and four month lung cancer survivor, will be in concert at New Prospect, with all proceeds benefiting Covenant House Michigan. Covenant House Michigan is a faith-based, non-profit organization which provides food, housing, encouragement, support, and educational opportunities for youth who may be homeless, abandoned or abused. There is no ticket cost for the concert and doors will open at 6pm. New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church is located at 6330 Pembroke, Detroit, Michigan 48221.
