Crime Drama Delves Into the Dynamics of American Indian Culture
In Joseph Crew's Abraham's Burden, the family of an alcoholic American Indian must pull together to save him from being convicted of murder
OLYMPIA, Wash. (MMD Newswire) April 1, 2009 -- Abraham's Burden by Joseph Crew is a suspense thriller about an American Indian and Vietnam War veteran charged with a crime he didn't commit.
Two members of a Puget Sound tribe brutally murder a glamorous congresswoman and her lover and bury their bodies on an uninhabited reservation island. Circumstantial evidence points to retired Master Sergeant Charlie Abraham, an alcoholic suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Charlie can't remember where he was when the crime was committed, and a recently fired handgun in Charlie's home, along with newspaper clippings revealing the congresswoman's anti-Indian political agenda, convincingly points to his guilt. As the clock ticks towards an almost certain conviction, Charlie's fragmented family comes together to help clear his name and save him from the hangman's noose.
Crew's former work in adult and juvenile corrections, as well as his experience as a family therapist and alcohol counselor with an American Indian tribe, brings authenticity and substance to his novel. Kirkus Discoveries states, "With an eye for meticulous detail, Crew provides generous descriptions for characters, actions and settings...[the] author's mastery of the geography and its people is clear...[a] compelling-even gripping-read."
