Martin's Super Markets "Go Green" with New REMIS America, LLC Refrigeration Doors
MISHAWAKA, INDIANA (MMD Newswire) March 23, 2009 -- Shoppers at Martin's Super Markets Heritage Square location may have noticed something new in the dairy aisle. As part of a pilot program implemented to increase overall energy efficiency, Martin's has retrofitted 88 feet of their upright refrigeration display cases with new REMIS America, LLC glass doors. Installation of these glass doors can reduce energy consumption up to a remarkable 60% over traditional open food cases.
These substantial energy savings were a key factor in the decision. However, it is a combination of customer benefits that has convinced Dan Bailey, Executive Vice President of Martin's Super Markets to install doors in approximately half their stores throughout North Central Indiana and Southern Michigan, over the coming year. Jim Schwartz, CEO of REMIS America, LLC and DEHCO, Inc. says, "Our energy saving products will allow retailers throughout North America the opportunity to have a positive effect on the environment. I am very proud to be able to introduce these products right here in my own community."

Chris Robinson, Dairy Manager at the Heritage Square store has noticed a "big difference" in the air temperature for shoppers in his department, and that many products are now selling better. "The case doors have lights, so visibility is improved and food items "pop" more." When asked about the positive results, Dan Bailey of Martinʼs commented, "The people at REMIS America were very good to work with. They did a great job on the installation with good follow-through."
REMIS GmbH of Cologne, Germany was looking for a reliable distribution and manufacturing partner in the United States, when they approached Elkhart, Indiana based DEHCO. DEHCO offers over 50 years of experience in manufacturing, supply chain management and fulfillment. With six locations nationwide and over 1/2 million sq. ft. of computerized warehouse space, DEHCO is ideally positioned to provide manufacturing, distribution, service and installation. The resulting joint venture, REMIS America, LLC is now official. These door systems have been extensively installed and proven in over ten thousand retail stores throughout Europe. REMIS America is now ready to offer these door systems to upfit refrigerated food and beverage cases in supermarkets. Systems are also available to OEMs across the United States and Canada.
A new manufacturing opportunity is developing in Elkhart, Indiana. Matt Pletcher, Managing Director, REMIS America, LLC is enthusiastic about the future. "The combination of consumer benefits and energy savings, along with the creation of new jobs, makes this venture a positive event for Elkhart County and grocery retailers across the United States and Canada." The facility will provide new jobs for workers who will produce tempered glass refrigerator doors and bunker freezer covers.
