Raytheon Wins $27 Million Missile Defense Contract From Boeing
The contract covers a six-month bridge effort for the follow-on GMD Core Completion Contract, in support of the Ballistic Missile Defense System.
Work under the award allows for the continued evolution, maturation, test, and verification of the Raytheon-built X-band radar aboard the Boeing-developed Sea-Based X-Band Radar vessel, upgraded early warning radars at Beale Air Force Base, California, and at Fylingdales, England, and the Cobra Dane Upgrade Radar at Shemya, Alaska.
The BMDS is an integrated system of sensors, interceptors and battle management software that provides a layered defense capability against enemy ballistic missile threats.
Boeing is the prime contractor for the GMD element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System. Raytheon developed and built the X-Band Radar, the Upgraded Early Warning Radars, and Cobra Dane Upgrade Radar as a subcontractor to Boeing.
Waltham, Massachusetts-based Raytheon specializes in defense, homeland security and other government markets. The company provides electronics, mission systems integration and other capabilities in the areas of sensing, effects and command, control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as a range of mission support services.
