New Book Questions Validity of Contemporary Beliefs
Author David Hillstrom seeks to reform the global political agenda in The Bridge
ATHENS, Greece -- December 2, 2008 -- The Bridge by David Hillstrom questions how a modern society can dismiss the myths of the ancient world and of primitive societies without first examining and testing its own current beliefs.
In the first half of The Bridge, Hillstrom, taking a page from 17th century philosopher René Descartes, doubts the truth of contemporary beliefs. Using a modified Cartesian method, Hillstrom examines modern beliefs against a simple principle—that a belief should be consistent with the body of knowledge that society has successfully amassed, and if it is not, then it should be dismissed or revised—with the intention of demonstrating the folly of not only religious beliefs, but also of secular views on race and national identity.

In the second half of the book, Hillstrom builds upon his conclusions and explores the deep roots of conflict in human societies by considering evolutionary theory as well as the earliest trends in history. Hillstrom aims to reveal how poorly international institutions have been designed and provide recommendations on how they might best be reformed.
Written to give people a new perspective on the world, The Bridge seeks to address the gap between current social belief systems and the existing body of knowledge of the world.
