New Memoir Takes a Look inside the World of Adoptees
Not Remembered Never Forgotten by Robert Hafetz offers the personal account of an adoptee searching for his birth mother
WARRINGTON, PA -- December 17, 2008 -- Not Remembered Never Forgotten seeks to capture the eternal bond between mother and child – even an adoptee who never met his natural mother. “I know that I have no memory of my mother’s face, her voice, her touch,” says author Robert Hafetz. “I would later discover that I was wrong. It is true that I could not remember, but it was also true that I could not forget.”
In Not Remembered Never Forgotten, Hafetz aims to bring to light the emotions that compel adoptees to find their birth families through his own search. Hafetz was born in the Door of Hope Salvation Army Booth Home in Jersey City, N.J. in 1951. “Whether you have been touched by adoption or not, this book will make you understand what it is like to live your life not knowing who you are or from where you came,” says Hafetz.

Not only does the author strive to thread the book with common language explanations of pre-cognitive infant memory and complex psychological concepts, but he also writes from his personal perspective of adoption. “Adoptees have a human right to know their complete identity,” says Hafetz. “Many states still seal adoption records. Hope, imagination and hard work can overcome the impossible.”
Hafetz’s memoir has received accolades from social workers, psychotherapists and adoption specialists, including Pam Hasegawa of the Adoption News Service, who said, “… I think this would be a great book to put in the hands of a legislator who wants to understand more about what it’s like to be cut off from one’s family of origin. I highly recommend it.”
