Historical Novel Set in 19th Century Paris Explores the Trials and Tribulations of a Star-Crossed Couple
Paris’ most famous opera house forms the backdrop of opera singer Angel Taormina’s romantic novel, Eternal Love
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Eternal Love, a new book by Angel Taormina, explores how two passionate people learn to face their fears and confront societal pressures in order to realize the true meaning of love and creativity.
Taormina’s novel Eternal Love begins in 1881 Paris amidst the high stakes world of opera. Christine, a young woman thrust into society, falls for an older and wealthier gentleman. But wedded bliss carries the price tag of great scandal, and Christine soon finds her life threatened by a former suitor’s older brother. As this fragile-hearted young woman struggles to preserve her love, her husband fights to trust her, even in the face of enormous doubt. The lovers triumph, and despite all obstacles, love does conquer all in a way that not only effects them, but the entire city of Paris.
Taormina has said that she wanted to write the story of Eternal Love in the style of the great 19th century authors. Taormina extensively researched the history of Paris, and she used her own experiences of performing opera to give the novel authenticity. While exploring marriage, social class and heroism, she aims to tell a timeless story of love and devotion. Her upcoming film adaptation and documentary about the Palais Garnier is meant to be a companion piece to her novel.
