New Book Seeks to Examine Today’s Unstable Financial System

Subprime Meltdown: It’s All About Money by Gerald Olson, Ph.D. aims to inspect the current state of America’s international and domestic imbalances

DALLAS - Subprime Meltdown: It’s All About Money, a new book by attorney Gerald Olson, Ph.D., strives to assess the current state of the economy.

According to Olson, the failure to maintain a dollar based on the principle of sound money has subjected all Americans to painful boom and bust cycles for nearly 40 years and tarnished the United States’ credibility with its trading partners.

The inspiration came to Olson to write the book in response to the “Subprime Meltdown and Liquidity Crisis of 2007,” when there was an ongoing financial crisis triggered by a dramatic rise in mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures in the United States, with major adverse consequences for banks and financial markets around the globe. Olson believes that leadership and action are necessary, as well as a system of “sound money” to validate the market’s choice of a common medium of exchange and stopping government involvement with American currency. Olson carries forward themes from his first book, Banks in Distress: Lessons from the American Experience of the 1980s through the development of the “Subprime Meltdown and Liquidity Crisis of 2007.” In addition, Olson notes the origin crises in the 1960s and 1970s, compares the current crisis to that of the 1980s and 1990s and examines the origins and effects of the “dot.com” telecom bust during the 2001-2002 recessions.
