New Novel Provides Contemporary Tale of Environmental Disaster
The Great Meltdown by Bob Zorich poses the possibility of world destruction of biblical proportions caused by global warming
BELLEVUE, Wash. – The Great Meltdown is author Bob Zorich’s take on one of the biggest issues facing the world today: global warming.
The fateful outcome of global warming erupts in The Great Meltdown when the enviro-political ambitions of Cold War enemies collide, leaving three professors as the world’s last hope for survival. The meltdown unravels after professor John teaches his class about the planet’s warming trends, which tips off a more controversial investigation into geopolitical and Cold War disasters. With the help of fellow professors Walter and Laura, John rushes to save the Earth, which has tipped on its axis because of revealed Russian atomic experiments in the Arctic Circle.
Zorich intends for The Great Meltdown to be a contemporary, adventurous novel riddled with the uncertain balance of science, human ambition and biblical prophecy. Without the equilibrium of these conditions, he proposes, an environmental disaster may ensue.
Zorich’s inspiration for The Great Meltdown was a newspaper article clipped from the Los Angeles Times titled, “Icecap in Antarctica Grows Even as Most Glaciers Shrink.” “I didn’t know why, but I knew it was important somehow,” says Zorich, who put the article in his desk, then jotted down notes about changing weather patterns. “I didn’t know exactly what to do with what I had discovered for a while. After a few weeks, I picked up my pen and the following tale emerged. Could it come true?”
