An American Hero Follows President Barack Obama's Lead and Takes Community Action
Seattle, WA (MMD Newswire) January 27, 2009 -- The job market has been devistating to American families, but just imagine being disabled trying to find a job in this current economic environment. About 70% of the disabled community is currently unemployed. Seth Shannon, also deaf, has committed to train individuals who are disabled to find jobs. Seth Shannon was inspired to start this community action program because of Mr. President Barack Obama. He reveals, "President Obama has given us the inspiration that we need to be guided. But, why wait on President Obama - when we can start right here and right now to help our own communities." Seth Shannon continues, "What President Barack Obama has shown many of us - is that we count too. And even though we are deaf, blind, paraplegic we still have talents, we still can contribute, we still have ideas, and we still can contribute our skills. What my organization is helping the disabled community understand is that We Count Too."
Seth Shannon launched The Seth Shannon foundation and has online and offline vocational rehabilitation training and offers job placement services for free to those who are disabled. The Seth Shannon foundation also helps individuals attain the necessary skills to be competitive enough to be considered by Human Resource specialists and recruiters. No newcomer to overcoming obstacles, Seth Shannon has been deaf all of his life and has had people simply ignore his capabilities and talents - all because he was deaf.

What makes Mr. Seth Shannon unique is that no matter when someone calls upon him, it can be in the middle of the night, he is prepared to step in at the last minute and help. There are four components that make Mr. Seth Shannon successful: availability, rapid response, positive imagination, and his success rate. His expertise and personal experience in Job placement for the disabled has helped him place individuals at a very high rate.
According to Mr. Shannon, "The question I get most often is, 'Is it far- fetched for me to go to a job that is traditionally for people who have no disabilities?' So my job is to not only find jobs, or train individuals to be competitive - but oftentimes it is to really restore an individual's confidence. I have to remind them that the only thing that can limit us is belief and imagination." Seth Shannon hopes that he can spark and inspire more individuals to not only view disabled individuals as people too, but he hopes that more people find a cause and take an action right in their communities to help President Barack Obama be the change that he committed to.
