New Children's Book Uses Colorful Examples to Illustrate Family Relationships
Five Family Pictures by Flavio de Souza is a children's story about recognizing the importance of family
SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL (MMD Newswire) January 29, 2009 -- Five Family Pictures, a new book by author and playwright Flavio de Souza, is a illustrated picture book about five different family encounters that all occur in the same family, highlighting the ups and downs of life.
De Souza knows firsthand that relationships can be hard work. He writes, “family relationships can be tense, funny and tender.” He includes his own childhood and family, as well as the upbringing of the first son in the five stories he writes.
According to de Souza, it is not easy to accept changes in a family but it is possible and worthwhile. For example, in the third story of his book, de Souza details the reservations a young boy has with the approaching birth of his baby brother. With humor and self-acceptance, as well as explanations from his parents, the boy later is able to embrace the new family addition.
De Souza wrote Five Family Pictures as a fresh approach to understanding the special dynamics between members of the family. Although written for children, de Souza feels that his book can be interesting to teenagers and adults as well. He intends Five Family Pictures to be humorous, sad and emotional at the same time.
