Fundraiser For Mesothelioma Treatment Research To Be Held This Weekend
The first annual Meet & Greet The Drivers will be held at the Granite Run Mall in Media, Pennsylvania tomorrow, March 7th, and Sunday, March 8th. All money raised will be presented to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF).
Bill Thomas, of Bill Thomas Racing, organized the event. Thomas was diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer and was forced to retire from racing as a result.
“I felt like I really needed to do something to give back so I came up with this event,” Thomas said. “Racing with my son is a big part of my life.”
The Meet & Greet will feature several Bridgeport Speedway drivers, and Ms. Motorsports 2009, Alyssa Sharman, will also make an appearance. A silent auction will raise funding for MARF.
Those interested in learning more about the event may contact Bill Thomas via email, at billthomasracing@comcast.net, or call 610-329-0239.
Mesothelioma cancer is caused by previous exposure to asbestos. Asbestos was used in the manufacture of certain car parts, including brakes. Mesothelioma cancer has no known cure, and treatment options, such as chemotherapy, are simply palliative and temporary.
