March 5, 2009 (FinancialWire) -- David D. Powell has been appointed to the position of chief financial officer for BHP Billiton, Ltd.'s (NYSE: BHP) (Current Market Cap: US$100.31 Mil.) BHP Billiton Petroleum unit.

Powell joins BHP Billiton from Occidental Petroleum (NYSE: OXY), where he most recently held the role of vice president, finance. He has more than 25 years of oil and gas accounting, commercial and other finance experience, serving in the United States, Argentina, Russia, Malaysia and Qatar.

In his new position, Powell is responsible for all finance, accounting and commercial assurance activities for BHP Billiton's petroleum business.
